Today, one of the hot issues in technology is about technological devices. Broadly speaking, all cellular phones, tablets, laptop and computers belong to technological devices. There’s no denying that these technological devices has become a significant part of students daily activities. But the question is, how are these devices affect student learning? Until now we can read in the dailies about the positive and negative significances of the technological devices may give to the learning of the students. Technology offers immediate gratification, and a machine to think for the individual.
On the other hand, technology can open the world to the mind of a curious kid who wants to learn about the things that he goes through his daily life for example how pencils are made, who the first man in space was, or the person who invented the computer etc. And in terms of educating, computers make information available to students for districts that could never afford the number of books their students might need. Instant access can feed a kid’s desire to learn. However, teaching everything via powerpoint presentations, however, high-tech the presentation, limits a student’s ability to learn in a variety of ways.
Technology has always flourished for the gain of mankind. The major achievements of technology have left man spell-bound and every part of the world today is enjoying the comforts provided by technology. Thanks to technology, all the countries are interlinked and we are now living in a global village. Modern technology has greatly improved people lives through different fields such as medicine, work, education and industry, especially education. However, we cannot say that technology is all good in itself. It is a two-edged sword and we have to see to what extent it has really helped improved people’s standard of living. There are many possible effects on using it. The effects depend only on the way the users used it. They have to know how to use it for their benefit and should not abuse its use. It should be properly utilized rather than rely on it totally.
Like anything, there are positives and negatives: perhaps what is most important is how we guide our children towards using technology. We need to make sure they read, too. When doing research assignments, kids need to understand why primary sources on the computer are preferable to secondary sources, and that just because it’s online, does not mean it’s a good source or even true. Technology’s negative effects may just out the way its positives.
Technology has a list of positive contributions towards the society which includes, entertainment, communication, making everyday tasks easier but like everything else, every positive effect has a negative effect. The negative effects of entertainment, communication, and the ability to make life more manageable are evident in every classroom. The entertainment of mobile devices distracts nearly every student in the classroom whether it be texting, playing games, or surfing the net. Technology makes good grades effortless by providing students with the ability to search numerous information from the several search engines for any problem they come across. These positive effects become negative because of the environment they are in schools technology is too powerful to go uncontrolled and until we correctly establish guidelines for technology in schools technology will continue to hinder students success.
